Architectual Vision for the Healthcare Campus NRW by the Berlin design office Léon Wohlhage Wernik Architects

Healthcare Campus NRW

In May 2009 the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia with its head office in Bochum.

The Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia is supposed to connect the key players of the regional health sector, as well as to merge their expertise and knowledge while encouraging the strategic advancement at the same time. It provides all platforms necessary for this purpose and acts on a cross-institutional basis through cooperative agreements with partners across Germany. The Healthcare Campus interlinks the healthcare policy with science, research and teaching as well as with economic development.

Owing to numerous opportunities to link up with the teaching facilities on the campus, the Healthcare Campus represents an attractive focal point to corporations acting in the healthcare management.

As to date, the following facilities have been or will be established on the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia:

  • Strategiezentrum Gesundheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (Strategic center for health, North-Rhine-Westphalia)
The Strategiezentrum Gesundheit NRW is considered to be the „nucleus“ of the Healthcare campus NRW. It acts as driving force in the initiation of nationwide projects and co-operations, while also providing for the development and structural organization of the Healthcare Campus.
  • Hochschule für Gesundheit (hsg) (School of health)
Since September 2010, Germany´s first School of health for health care professions in Bochum has started to offer bachelor courses in Occupational Therapy, Midwifery Science, Logopedics, Hospital Care, and Physical Therapy.
  • Landesinstitut Gesundheit und Arbeit (LIGA) (State institute for health and labor)
The LIGA provides support and consulting services to authorities and local municipalities by acting as contact point regarding issues and questions related to healthcare management, the healthcare policy, and matters concerning occupational health and safety at the workplace.
  • Zentrum für Telematik im Gesundheitswesen (ZTG) (Center for telematics in the health management sector)
The main task of the ZTG is the development, implementation, and dissemination of telematics-related solutions for the healthcare sector. The ZTG is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) run by service providers for information- and communication technologies, institutions and organizations of the health sector, and research corporations.
  • European Protein Research Centre PURE (Protein-Research Unit RUHR within Europe)
The yet to be officially established PURE will develop specific protein markers which allow for diagnostic accuracy in all respects. The research emphasis is on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer´s.
  • Krebsregister NRW (Cancer registry)
The Krebsregister NRW is an institution for the central collection, storage, and evaluation of data concerning cancerous diseases.
  • Elektronisches Beruferegister für Gesundheitsfachberufe (eGBR) (Electronic register for health care professions)
As soon as the introduction of the electronic health card and the establishment of a telematic infrastructure in Germany has taken place, the eGBR is going to act as competent authority for the issuance of electronic healthcare- and professional IDs to persons, who will be considered as „other service providers in the health care sector“.
  • Clustermanagement Gesundheitswirtschaft NRW (Cluster management of the health care sector NRW)
The Clustermanagement Gesundheitswirtschaft NRW connects the market´s key players of the regions Aachen, Cologne/Bonn, Münsterland, Eastern Westphalia-Lippe, Southern Westphalia, and the Ruhr Metropolis. It represents the driving force for topics related to innovations in the hospital, as well as rehabilitation and preventive health care.
  • MedEcon Ruhr e.V.
MedEcon Ruhr e.V. provides management- and consulting services on the Healthcare Campus and acts as supervisor of the health management networks in the Ruhr region.

The construction works for most of the facilities are expected to be completed in 2015.
