Cardiology at Bergmannsheil among Germany’s top clinics

Clinic successful in the latest Focus magazine hospital rankings

The Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology in the University Clinic Bergmannsheil is among the top clinics in Germany. This is the conclusion come to by the Focus Health magazine in its latest list of clinics based on an independent survey. In the field of cardiology the Bergmannsheil Clinic is one of 75 establishments nationwide which is mentioned and recommended in the list. The evaluation was based on data about case numbers, treatment results and complication rates. Extensive interviews with doctors, surveys carried out in cooperation with medical companies and the scientific publications issued by the establishments tested were all taken into account. The cardiology clinic at the Bergmannsheil clinic did particularly well in the “medical quality” category, achieving 82 from 100 possible points – the second best value of all clinics.

Specialized care covering the whole range of cardiology

The Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology treats patients with all types of cardiological and vascular diseases. The clinics own heart catheter labs can carry out all the latest heart examination procedures. Prof. Dr. Andreas Mügge’s team has a particular focus on treating cardiac insufficiency by implanting special pacemaker systems, implanting defibrillators for life-threatening heart rhythm disturbances and catheter supported implantation of replacement aortic valves (percutaneous aortic valve replacements).

As one of just a few centres in Germany, the clinic carries out an innovative catheter procedure for rectifying defects of the mitral valve (mitral valve clipping). Modern implantation systems (CCM) with which patients’ heart insufficiency can be treated, are also part of their range of treatments. In order to guarantee faster and more targeted acute treatments for patients with heart attacks, the team at the clinic man the heart-catheter lab 24 hour a day.
