RUB agrees on roadmap for the next few years

The Ruhr University of Bochum will continue on its chosen path: on 19 January the RUB also signed the Target and Performance Agreement IV with the Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. “The agreement enhances the Ruhr University’s profile. This will help us to continue to follow our long-term strategy and to give the university an international thrust,” explains Professor Elmar Weiler, Rector of the RUB.

Vocational training and academic studies, research and third-party funds, the advancement of women and young talent, modernisation and building projects: the agreement covers all of the core areas which will be pivotal for the RUB in this year and the next. Specific issues which are covered by the agreement include the number of places available for enrolments and the continued development of dual-phase degree courses. In particular, research-related modules (“learning through research”) are to be promoted along with the suitability of courses for combining with international programmes.

With its long-term strategy, “Research Campus RUB”, the Ruhr University sees itself as a trailblazer among Europe’s universities of the 21st century. It has set its sights firmly on internationalisation as a central goal, committing itself in the agreement both to the region and to the University Alliance Metropole Ruhr (UAMR) with the neighbouring universities of Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen. North Rhine-Westphalia’s Science Minister, Svenja Schulze, signed the Target and Performance Agreement IV, together with nine other institutes of higher education from the Ruhr area, including the three UAMR universities.
