Aesculap Academy establishes Further Education Centre at the BioMedical Science Park in Bochum

The company from Tuttlingen expands to North Rhine-Westphalia’s Healthcare Campus

The Aesculap Academy, an international further education and training establishment funded by the medical technology and pharmaceuticals company, B. Braun Melsungen AG, is to open a new branch in Bochum. The sales agreement for a plot of approx. 4300 m2 at the BioMedical Science Park in Bochum was signed on 09.06.2011. Construction of the academy building is to begin in 2012.

The municipal development agency, Entwicklungsgesellschaft Ruhr-Bochum or EGR, which is responsible for marketing the BioMedical Science Park, was able to announce yet another construction project at the park. “We are very pleased that our various activities to promote Bochum as a location for the health sector, known under the umbrella brand as medlands.RUHR, have clearly led to further success,“ said Michael Müller, CEO of EGR as the agreement was signed.

Lord Mayor Dr. Ottilie Scholz is in no doubt that the company has chosen the right location: “With the Aesculap Academy, a renowned company will be investing in Bochum, adding to the already outstanding assets of the sector in the area surrounding the Ruhr University of Bochum and enhancing the future NRW Healthcare Campus.“ The Aesculap Academy GmbH is a subsidiary of Aesculap AG, a division of B. Braun Melsungen AG, a healthcare product manufacturer which operates internationally. It was during talks with a number of Bochum stakeholders that the professional training forum originally became aware of the area’s attractiveness as a location.

“The Aesculap Academy’s network trains more than 60,000 experts in the field of medicine worldwide each year. Alongside our main establishment in Tuttlingen and our branch in Berlin, Bochum is the ideal location for further expansion, being situated at the centre of North Rhine-Westphalia’s complex landscape,“ explains to Professor Hanns-Peter Knaebel, Chairman of the Board of Aesculap AG. The first-rate medical facilities at the Ruhr University of Bochum, the excellent range of hospitals in the region, and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia’s ambitious Healthcare Campus project convinced us that Bochum was the ideal location,” continues Knaebel.

The new branch of the Aesculap Academy will mainly offer advanced training for doctors, nurses and other health professionals, not to mention hospital management. “The demand for advanced and further training in the field of medicine is huge. We see ourselves as a partner of the medical community and predict a great potential for further growth,” says Felicitas Janßen, CEO of the Aesculap Academy. Müller, too, expressed his optimism for the future: “In addition to the Aesculap Academy, we’re expecting that current negotiations will bear fruit in the not-too-distant future, so we’re looking forward to a construction boom at the BioMedical Science Park in the next few years. This confirms once again that the town’s stakeholders have produced excellent, forward-looking work in the past few years.”
