Construction work starts at the BioMedical Science Park Bochum
Foundation stone laying ceremony for the office building – Strategy Centre Healthcare NRW as anchor tenant
The symbolic laying of the foundation stone sees the start of the first construction project at the BioMedical Science Park Bochum. The Entwicklungsgesellschaft Ruhr-Bochum (EGR) mbH is erecting an office building for around 2.1 million Euros with around 1,500 m² of floor space which will be available for future tenants in the health care sector. The anchor tenant will be the Strategy Centre Healthcare NRW, which has been contracted to develop the Healthcare Campus North Rhine Westphalia on the neighbouring Campus West site.
Michael Müller, Managing Director of the EGR, together with the Lord Mayor of the City of Bochum, Mrs Ottilie Scholz, the State Secretary at the NRW Ministry of Health Marlis Bredehorst and PD Dr. Andreas Meyer-Falcke, Head of the Strategy Centre Healthcare NRW, ceremoniously laid the foundation stone for the building.
“We are very pleased to have started this trendsetting project for the Healthcare Campus as well as for the BioMedical Park Bochum”, says Müller. “Negotiations with other investors are progressing well so we are sure that other companies will soon be starting construction work in the BioMedical Science Park Bochum too.” State Secretary Bredehorst emphasised that “The construction of this building is a visible signal that the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia is becoming reality. The Strategy Centre can control the development of the campus over the coming years and will benefit from its close proximity to the other protagonists in the healthcare sector. I would like to thank the City of Bochum for their support in setting up the Healthcare Campus.”
“Here in the south of Bochum, in close proximity to the Ruhr University, one of the most exciting healthcare sector locations in Germany is being created”, emphasised Lord Mayor Dr. Scholz in her speech. “The dense network of excellent university research establishments, innovative healthcare companies and healthcare education and administration on the Healthcare Campus North Rhine-Westphalia creates the optimal environment for patient- and technology-oriented development of innovations for the health care system of the future.”
PD Dr. Meyer-Falcke invited all interested parties to get involved: “The Strategy Centre doors are open to everyone who would like to discuss healthcare topics, to contribute their ideas and to get involved in making North Rhine-Westphalia’s inhabitants healthier.” The Strategy Centre, which is currently located in the BioMedical Centre Bochum, will move into the new building in the autumn of 2011.
