Growing healthily in the healthcare sector – 2nd Sector Meeting Health Business Ruhr in Bochum

Which obstacles arise after founding a company and how to avoid them – these are the questions which were discussed by the approximately 50 participants at the “2nd Sector Meeting Health Business Ruhr” on 30 November 2010 in the IHK Central Ruhr Region. It was put on by the IHK Central Ruhr Region (Chamber of Commerce), the Network MedEcon Ruhr and the Wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr.

Andreas Strauss (ILIAS medical GmbH, Bochum) and Katrin Krinke (Ortho Mobile GmbH, Hattingen) reported on their experiences of company development as examples of successful growth. Their conclusion: instead of just having a master plan, one should also have a plan B and plan C up one’s sleeve as well.

As part of a discussion session, Philipp Ernste (NRW.Bank), Stefan Grave (IHK Central Ruhr Region) and Gary Gelsing (Startbahn Ruhr) spoke about the range of public funding available. Ranging from special credit products and grants for consulting services to the Benchmark-Award, a wide variety of public funding is available to newly founded companies.

Flexible market orientation and customized funding – was that it? Not completely, because your customers will never find you if there is no target group-oriented communication. Johannes Brand from brand kommunikation (Bochum) emphasised how important appropriate external communication is. Young companies in particular have to work hard to convince people about their own products and services.

This “Health Business Ruhr Series” is planned to continue in the spring of 2011.
